USARAF commander engages Tunisian Land Forces army chief

VICENZA, Italy – Maj. Gen. Roger Cloutier, the U.S. Army Africa Commander, conducted a phone call with Brig. Gen. Mohamed El Ghoul, the Army Chief of Staff for the Tunisian Land Forces, May 12, to discuss the impacts of COVID-19 on exercises and theater security cooperation efforts.

Cloutier and Ghoul discussed the security situation in Libya, as well as the Tunisian military's commitment to counterterrorism.

Cloutier and Ghoul also discussed the Security Force Assistance Brigade. In February, the Department of Defense realigned the 1st SFAB to the U.S Africa Command area of responsibility.

"The SFAB is an exceptional organization, fully capable of conducting a broad array of missions," Cloutier said.

Cloutier also reinforced USARAF's commitment to security cooperation with the Tunisian Land Forces. USARAF will expand security cooperation initiatives in intelligence and medical training in the near future.

"While COVID-19 has become part of our shared reality, we will continue to value and build upon our partnership as we face the resulting challenges together," Cloutier said.
