Command Sergeant Major Christopher G. Gilpin

Command Sergeant Major, U.S. Army Africa


Command Sergeant Major Gilpin enlisted in the Army in 1986 and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. Since then he has served as an Infantryman in every leadership position from Team Leader to Command Sergeant Major.

His duty assignments and deployments include Fort Hood, Fort Stewart, Vermont, Korea, Fort Bragg, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Fort Riley, Operation Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Joint Guardian (KFOR 3A Kosovo), Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

Command Sergeant Major Gilpin has attended numerous military schools and training courses including Air Assault School, Ranger School, Recruiter School, Airborne School, First Sergeant Course, and is a graduate of the United States Sergeants Major Academy Class 54. Command Sergeant Major Gilpin holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management and Administration from Excelsior College and a Masters of Art in Teaching from Webster University.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (2 OLC), Bronze Star (2 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (5 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with V Device, Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (6 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (9th Award), National Defense Service Medal (1 BSS), Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Operation Enduring Freedom Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (3 BSS), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 4), Army Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (numeral 4), NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Government of Kuwait), Presidential Unit Citation, Valorous Unit Award (1 OLC), Army Superior Unit Award, Ranger Tab, basic Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Basic Recruiter Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Combat Infantryman Badge (2nd award).

Command Sergeant Major Gilpin is married and has two children.
